Granted it was in the Dallas airport and Texans treat their guns as a fifth/sixth/seventh/30th appendages so maybe the scanners are calibrated as such.

The TSA insider who blew the whistle on the test also said that none of the TSA agents who failed to spot the gun on the scanned image were disciplined. The source said the agents continue to work the body scanners today.

Freedom isn’t free folks. You have to pay for systems that won’t work dependably. We’re just lucky the recent spat of airplane bombers failed from their own ineptitude. The Department of Homeland Security is the most efficient of departments.
Though in defense of the TSA, no government agency works well in Texas. They prefer it that way.
