CNN names the article “Obama panel offers $4 trillion in deficit cuts”
In a surprise move Wednesday, the co-chairmen of President Obama’s fiscal commission publicly released their preliminary proposals to curb growth in U.S. debt.
The report recommends spending cuts beginning in 2012, as well as tax reform and other ways to reduce the deficit by $4 trillion over the next decade.
The draft report — which represents ideas offered for consideration of the 18-member panel — would: (lists report’s points)
Yet the author Jeanne Sahadi never mentions that only 2/18 members (Erksine Bowles and Alan Simpson) of the Entitlement Commission endorse the recommendations. She mentions some members’ reservations, but misses the most important and illuminating part of the Commission’s findings: that the great majority of the Commission do not support the preliminary report.
