Speaking of Useless Crap

You know that stuff that comes out of faucets? Sometimes you can find it running over land, or collecting in large pools. It’s a pretty common thing (at least here in the U.S. and in Europe). I get mine for free. Some might complain about how bad the DC tap water is, but they are just jaded and like to complain about whatever. We are lucky to have such easy access to water. There are millions out there who are not so lucky. I refuse to buy bottled water. I think it is wasteful; why waste a plastic bottle that harms the environment in almost every step of its life? And considering I get my water for free, anything that costs more than that is overpriced. That is why Avène Thermal Spring Water might be one of the most disgusting things I have ever seen:

Unique composition soothes and softens the skin and restores skin’s natural balance.

Clinically proven by over 300 studies to calm, soothe, and soften the skin.  Used since 1743 in the Hydrotherapy Center to treat serious dermatological conditions such as atopic dermatitis, psoriasis and eczema.

And guess what? They have “clinical studies” that prove it works! Amazing! Let’s click on the link to these studies and see whats there. Not a lot. It is almost one study. I really enjoy the thermal image of the face. It shows a face cooling off after it was sprayed with their water. Holy crap Batman! If you spray something with water it cools off!!!! These guys are on the leading edge of science! (O.K. that’s enough sarcasm for now). They are also trying to gain more credibility by saying this water has been used since 1743. This means nothing. They also did blood-letting then.

You might be asking, “How much does this wonder substance cost?” It can be yours for only $7 for a 1.76 oz bottle. If I had no morals, I would be in the natural medicine faster than you can say “Snake oil!” This stuff will run you about $3.97 per ounce. Lets compare that to crude oil. Using Google, I found out that there are 5376 fluid ounces in one barrel of oil. Today (5/17) oil is around $70 per barrel, which is about $0.013 per fluid ounce. This stupid water is 300x more expensive than crude oil.
